Bluefish Rally for 9-8 Win Over Patriots

Bridgewater, NJ- The Bridgeport Bluefish defeated the Somerset Patriots 9-8 in the first game of a doubleheader at TD Bank Ballpark on Sunday evening.

The Bluefish plated three unearned runs in the sixth inning due to two costly errors by Fernando Cortez and Ben Grezlovski and a wild pitch that allowed Andres Perez to score.

Trailing 6-3 in the bottom of the fourth, the Patriots rallied for four runs, highlighted by Josh Pressley's two-run double to left center field to give Somerset a 7-6 lead.

The Patriots scored first in the bottom of the second inning after Joe Burke walked and came around to score on a throwing error on the catcher when trying to steal third. Elliott Ayala then singled and scored on an RBI double by Norris Hopper for the 2-0 advantage.

Somerset added a run the following inning after back-to-back doubles by Joe Holden and Fernandez Cortez to make the score 3-0.

Bridgeport rallied to put up six runs in the top of the fourth. Four RBI hits, including a two run triple by Adam Greenburg put Bridgeport on top 6-3.

A solo homerun by Yusuf Carter (4) in the bottom of the fifth added an insurance run for the Patriots and gave them an 8-6 lead.

Bluefish reliever Kyle Zaleski (1-0) got the win after coming in the game in the fifth and struck out a batter to get out of the inning. Grezlovski (2-2) suffered the loss for the Patriots, allowing an earned run and retiring two batters in 0.2 innings pitched. Juan Rincon picked up his 15th save of the season after pitching a scoreless seventh inning.
