
Coyotes Trade Al Montoya, Rampage Recall Joe Fallon

SAN ANTONIO (February 9, 2011) -- Phoenix Coyotes General Manager Don Maloney announced today that the Coyotes have acquired a sixth-round draft choice in the 2011 NHL Entry Draft from the New York Islanders in exchange for goaltender Al Montoya. In addition, the Rampage have recalled goaltender Joe Fallon from their ECHL affiliate, the Las Vegas Wranglers.
In 21 games with the San Antonio Rampage (AHL) this season, Montoya has posted an 11-8-0 record with a 3.19 goals against average and .891 save percentage.
In 2008-09, Montoya played in five games with the Coyotes, posting a 3-1-0 record with a 2.08 goals against average. The Chicago, Ill. native became the first Cuban-American to play in the NHL and first Coyotes goalie to record a shutout in his NHL debut stopping all 23 shots on April 1, 2009 at Colorado.
Montoya was acquired from the New York Rangers on Feb. 26, 2008. He was drafted by the Rangers in the first round (sixth overall) in the 2004 NHL Entry Draft.
Fallon, 26, has appeared in four games with the Rampage this season posting a 2-1-0 record and a .900 save percentage.
The Bemidji, Minn. native has played in 27 games with the Wranglers this season posting an 18-8-1 record including a .916 save percentage and a 2.48 goals against average.
Fallon was drafted by the Blackhawks in the sixth round (167th overall) in the 2005 NHL Entry Draft.
