
Anaheim Acquires Beauchemin from Toronto in Exchange for Joffrey Lupul, Jake Gardiner and Conditiona

Syracuse, NY (February 9, 2011) - The Syracuse Crunch announced today that the Anaheim Ducks have acquired defenseman Francois Beauchemin from the Toronto Maple Leafs in Exchange for right wing Joffrey Lupul, prospect defenseman Jake Gardiner and a conditional fourth round pick in the 2013 NHL Entry Draft.
Beauchemin, 30, was a key member of the Ducks 2007 Stanley Cup Championship club. He played with the Ducks from 2005-09, appearing in 246 regular season games (21g, 69a with 172 penalty minutes). Beauchemin also skated in 55 playoff games with Anaheim, scoring 18 points (8g, 10a) with 68 penalty minutes. In addition, Beauchemin appeared in 72 games with the Crunch during the 2004-05 season, and led all club defensemen in scoring with 30 points (3g, 27a).
A native of Sorel, Quebec, Beauchemin has appeared in 54 games with Toronto this season, tallying 12 points (2g, 10a). He was originally acquired by Anaheim from Columbus along with Tyler Wright in exchange for Sergei Fedorov and a fifth-round selection in the 2006 NHL Entry Draft on November 15, 2005.
Beauchemin was drafted by Montreal in the third round, 75th overall, in the 1998 NHL Entry Draft. The 6-0, 213-pound defenseman has played in 382 career NHL games with Montreal, Columbus, Anaheim and Toronto) recording 128 points (28g, 100a) and 221 penalty minutes.
Lupul, 27, has appeared in 26 games with Anaheim this season, registering 13 points (5g, 8a). He also skated in three games with the Crunch earlier this year while on a conditioning loan during his recovery from back surgery and a subsequent blood infection, notching four points (1g, 3a). A native of Fort Saskatchewan, Alberta, Lupul was originally selected by Anaheim in the first round, seventh overall, in the 2002 NHL Entry Draft
Gardiner, 20, has appeared in 30 games for the University of Wisconsin (WHCA) this season, collecting 30 points (7g, 23a) with a plus-20 rating and 22 penalty minutes. A native of Deephaven, Minnesota, Gardiner was selected by Anaheim in the first round, 17th overall in the 2008 NHL Entry Draft.
The Crunch hit the road for the next three games, including back-to-back contests against Norfolk on Friday, February 11 and Saturday, February 12. Syracuse returns home to face San Antonio on Friday, February 18 at 7:30 p.m. at The Oncenter War Memorial Arena.
