Edinburg Roadrunners News Release

ALEXANDRIA, Louisiana- The Edinburg Coyotes' comeback attempt fell just short in the ninth inning as they lost 10-9 against the Alexandria Aces. The Coyotes played hard even after falling behind but as much as five runs early in the ball game. Daryl Jones got the Coyotes' offense going in the first inning with his eighth home run of the season. Jones' home run, his first since June 16 against San Angelo, gave the Coyotes a 1-0 lead. A good start by the Coyotes (28-35) was spoiled by the Aces (41-24) in the bottom of the first inning as the first five hitters reached safely. After RBI singles by Palmer Karr Jr. and Selwyn Langaigne, which gave the Aces a 2-1 lead, Rafael Ozuna capped off the inning with a three run home run off of Eric Montoya which extended the Aces lead to 5-1.

But the Coyotes answered back against Alejandro Martinez in the top of the third inning. Patrick Gaylord started the inning with a single into center. After a single by Alex Entrekin, Argelis Nunez hit a two-run double into the left field corner that cut the Aces' lead to two. Then Mayobanex Santana hit a two run single that scored Nunez and Eric Gonzalez which tied the game at five.

The Aces then chased Montoya and broke the tie in the bottom of the third inning. Back-to-back singles and an error put runners at second and third for Eddie Fitzpatrick. Fitzpatrick then hit a two run single that regained the lead for the Aces. Then with two outs, Luis Guance hit an RBI double that scored Fitzpatrick and extended the lead to 8-5.

In the top of the sixth inning, the Coyotes figured out Martinez and chased him from the game. Brandon McConnell hit a single to start the inning off for the Coyotes. With McConnell at second, Fermin hit a single into center field that allowed McConnell to score. Then Entrekin hit a double that put runners at second and third for Jones who then hit an RBI single that scored Fermin from third that inched the Coyotes within one run. With runners on the corners, Manager Vince Moore called for a double steal that scored Entrekin from third which tied the game at 8-8.

But in the eighth inning, the Aces broke the tie, again, but this time against Julio Castro. Ozuna started the inning with a leadoff double then moved to third on a sacrifice fly by Marshall. With the infield in, Blake Butler hit a line drive into right field that allowed Ozuna to score the go ahead run. The Aces added another run on a wild pitch by Castro (1-4) which took the score to 10-8. The run that came in on a wild pitch was costly since the Coyotes added a run in the ninth inning. Entrekin came in to score on a bases loaded walk to Amado German. The Coyotes left the bases loaded with their comeback attempt falling just short.

The Coyotes and Aces will complete their three game series in Alexandria Wednesday night at Bringhurst Field. Aaron Guerra (7-1) will face Ramon Portillo (6-2) in the finale. The Coyotes will then travel back home to face the same Alexandria team for three games in Edinburg.
