Broncos Drop First Game of Doubleheder to San Angelo

Laredo, TX-The Laredo Broncos brought the tying run to the plate, but could not get the job done as they lost to the San Angelo Colts by a score of 5-2 at Veterans Field on Tuesday night in game 1 of a doubleheader. The Broncos finish their 7 game home stand with the 2nd game of a doubleheader against the Colts on Tuesday night. For more information you can call (956)-723-BASE (2273).

The Colts would score first in the 3rd inning. John Anderson led off with a single, and then stole 2nd base. With 1 out, Jose Torres would draw a walk. With Andres Rodriguez at the plate, Anderson stole 3rd and the throw by Josue Gonzalez went into left field allowing Anderson to score and Torres to go to 2nd. Rodriguez would then hit a single scoring Torres. Aaron Cone would that with a 2 run home run, his 11th of the season. That gave San Angelo a 4-0 lead.

The Colts would make it 5-0 when Bryan Frichter hit a solo home run his 8th of the season. That would be more than enough support for their starter Billy McKinney in his 5 innings of work. He gave up 0 runs, on 1 hit, he walked 1 and struck out 3. Miliade Venas would come into the game in the 6th.

The Broncos would finally get on the board in the 6th. With 1 out, Luany Sanchez doubled and then scored on a double by Edgard Clemente. That made the score 5-1.

Gregorio Martinez would be done after 6 innings of work for the Broncos. He gave up 5 runs on 8 hits. He walked 3 batters and struck out 6. Mickey Callaway would come in and pitch the 7th and pitch a scoreless inning which left the Broncos trailing by 4 heading into the 9th.

The Broncos would start off the 9th inning, with Ben Tinius being hit by a pitch. Steven Wright then followed with a single, moving Tinius to 2nd. Josue Gonzalez would single into left field scoring Tinius from 2nd, but Wright was thrown out trying to go to 3rd. Anthony Bennett would then pop out. Arnoldo Ponce would then walk to bring up Luany Sanchez as the tying run. The Colts would counter by bringing in closer Mitch Lively. On the first pitch, Sanchez would fly out to right field as the Broncos fell by a score of 5-2

The Broncos scored 4 runs on 6 hits and committed 1 error, while the Colts scored 5 runs on 8 hits and committed 1 error.

The Broncos now fall to 30-35 on the season. The Broncos will be back in action on Tuesday when they play game 2 of a doubleheader to finish the 3 game series against the San Angelo Colts at Veterans Field.
