Broncos salvage split

Laredo Broncos News Release


Laredo, TX-The Laredo Broncos got a great pitching performance by Santo Hernandez as they beat the San Angelo Colts by a score of 3-1 at Veterans Field on Tuesday night in game 2 of a doubleheader. The Broncos are off tomorrow but go on a short 3 game trip to face the Amarillo Dillas on Thursday-Saturday. For more information you can call (956)-723-BASE (2273).

The Colts would score first in the 2nd inning. Aaron Cone led off with a walk and then went to 3rd on a double by Jason Landreth. Bryan Frichter followed with a sacrifice fly scoring Cone on the play and giving San Angelo an 1-0 lead.

The Broncos would tie the game up in their half of the 2nd inning. With 2 outs, Arnoldo Ponce singled and then went to 2nd on a single by Johnny Lopez. Matt Lawman followed with a rbi single scoring Ponce and making the score 1-1. After Anthony Bennett struck out, manager Dan Shwam of the Broncos was not happy and started to argue with home play umpire Woodie Bell. Bell would end up tossing Shwam.

Laredo would finally take the lead in the 5th inning. With 1 out Matt Lawman would walk and then go to 3rd on a double by Anthony Bennett. Ivan Reyes would follow with a 2 run single up the middle, as the Broncos now led the game 3-1.

The Broncos would keep that 2 run lead into the top of the 7th as Santo Hernandez went for the complete game. He would pitch a scoreless inning as the Broncos took game 2 by a score of 3-1.

Hernandez would go all 7 innings giving up the 1 run on 3 hits. He walked 2 batters and struck out 7. That would be his 2nd complete game of the season

The Broncos scored 3 runs on 9 hits and committed 1 error, while the Colts scored 1 run on 3 hits and committed 1 error.

The Broncos now improve to 31-35 on the season. The Broncos will be back in action on Thursday when they open up a 3 game set in Amarillo against the Dillas.
