Countdown to Face-Off
Published on March 31, 2005 under International Hockey League 2 (IHL 2)
Kalamazoo Wings News Release
It could be a preview of the playoffs, as the Kalamazoo Wings face-off against the Missouri River Otters. The K-Wings have already clinched a birth in the upcoming Colonial Cup Playoffs, while the Otters are currently seventh overall in the UHL.
The K-Wings keep finding ways to win and as a result, Kalamazoo is now on a seven-game winning streak. With six games remaining, the K-Wings are looking to keep pace for home ice advantage in the playoffs. The K-Wings enter tonight with 98 points, which places them third overall in the league and just two points behind Adirondack for second and six points behind Muskegon for first overall in the league.
The River Otters can clinch a playoff birth as soon as tonight. To get their playoff ticket punched, Missouri would need to defeat the K-Wings and have the Rockford IceHogs defeat the Flint Generals. Despite going 5-5-0 in their last 10 games, the River Otters are one of the league most dangerous home teams. Coming into tonight, Missouri is 22-12-3 at the Family Arena.

Just Win Baby
The K-Wings are on a seven-game winning streak and are unbeaten in regulation in their last ten games. In their last ten games, the K-Wings have a record of 9-0-1. Both the win and unbeaten streaks are the longest current win and unbeaten streaks in the league.
Road Warriors
Besides being unbeaten in their last ten games, the K-Wings are also on a nine-game road winning streak. The nine-game road winning streak is the longest current streak in the UHL and a K-Wings UHL franchise record. The UHL record for consecutive road wins is 11-games, held by the 1999-00 Quad City Mallards and B.C. Icemen. The K-Wings are starting a four-game road swing with tonight's game in Kansas City.
Chasing History
This season, the K-Wings have already reestablished franchise records for both overall (46) and road (25) wins. If the K-Wings win tonight they will set another franchise mark for most points in a season. Entering tonight, the K-Wings have 98 points, which is one point shy of their UHL franchise best of 99 set last year.
On a Roll
Forwards Andrew Luciuk and Kevin Kotyluk enter tonight's game on lengthy point streaks. Luciuk is on a five-game point streak, while Kotyluk has registered a point in his last four games. The five-game streak by Luciuk is the longest current streak by a K-Wings player. In his last five games, the veteran forward has recorded an astonishing 12 points. Earlier this week, Luciuk was named the UHL Sher-Wood Player of the Week.
