Kansas City Outlaws News Release
The Kalamazoo Wings made their final appearance at Kemper Arena this season, and Kansas City fans will be glad not to see 'em again for a while. The K-Wings rallied from a 3-1 deficit to beat the Outlaws, 4-3 tonight.
After an uneventful and scoreless first period, Outlaw rookie sensation Mark Lee beat Kalamazoo netminder Joel Martin just 2:17 into the second frame. Leezy took a beautiful pass from Briane Thompson and popped the puck past a defenseless Martin from about 6 feet out.
Kalamazoo's Kevin Kerr- minor league hockey's all time leading goal scorer- added to his career total just a few minutes later with a power play tally at 5:05. Dan Rohanna was in the box for holding at the time. Kerr's goal was assisted by Greg Labenski and Kory Karlander, and it tied the game at 1-1.
Later in the period, Dan Rohanna regained the Kansas City lead with a goal at 13:18 (Lee, Thompson), followed by a Thompson tally at 16:26 (Matthieu Descoteaux, Lee). The Outlaws were in charge, 3-1.
Down 3-1, the K-Wings started flapping harder. Daniel Carriere picked up a goal with just 36 seconds left (Tyler Willis, Kerr) to pull Kalamazoo within 1. The intermission arrived with Kansas City still leading, 3-2.
Things just turned ugly in the third period. Kalamazoo's Dan Price scored the tying goal- unassisted- on a play that also saw Outlaw Big George Davis get tossed from the game with a 5 minute match penalty for attempting to injure. Although the Outlaws penalty killing unit did it's job and killed off that 5 minute disadvantage, the Wings took the lead for good at 10:06. Andrew Luciuk's goal made the score 4-3, Kalamazoo, and that's how it ended.
The Outlaws have a day off before hosting Quad City Friday night at 7:00 pm and Missouri Saturday at 1:00 pm. Great seats are still available for both games.
