
Hockey continues in Port Huron

LAKE ST. LOUIS, MO - The United Hockey League (UHL) announced Thursday that its Board of Governors has approved the application for a member club to the city of Port Huron, Michigan to begin play for the 2005-06 season. The team is locally owned by the Port Huron Support Company, Inc. and will be named the Port Huron Flags.
The Port Huron Flags will join the UHL as the 15th member club for the league's 15th season and will play at the McMorran Place Sports & Entertainment Center in downtown Port Huron.
"We are proud to have been able to make the announcement for the city and the entire region that hockey will continue in Port Huron," stated Richard Brosal, UHL President/CEO. "On behalf of the Board of Governor's, we wish the new Port Huron Flags much success."
The team is named after the Port Huron Flags which competed in the International Hockey League (IHL) between the years of 1962-1981.
"This is a very exciting opportunity for the city of Port Huron," stated Marty Haddad, Executive Committee member of the Port Huron Support Company, Inc. "The team is locally owned and operated, so the people of this city will have something to call their own and truly say, âOur community, Our team'."
The team has also named Herb Hammond as General Manager.

The UHL will embark on its 15th consecutive season in October 2005 with 15 member clubs in seven states.
