Countdown to Face-Off
February 5, 2005 - International Hockey League 2 (IHL 2)
Kalamazoo Wings News Release
The Kalamazoo Wings head into "The Garage" poised to avenge a 4-3 loss last Sunday to Motor City. Tonight's game is the fifth of seven meetings between the teams and the last here at "The Garage". Despite their loss last Sunday to the Mechanics, the K-Wings are an impressive 3-1-0 against Motor City.
After suffering through a season tying three-game winless streak, a victory last night over Missouri has pulled the K-Wings within two points of the top spot in the Central Division. The K-Wings, who have won 14 of their last 17 games, have received scoring from the blue line. Defensemen Shaun Fisher and Mark Vilneff both enter tonight's game on point streaks. Fisher is on a five-game point streak, which ties him with Yannick Carpentier for the longest point streak by a K-Wings player this year. Vilneff is on a three game point streak. In fact, Vilneff has registered a point in six of his last seven games. The K-Wings will bolster their lineup tonight, as Tim Turner and Sean Starke are back after serving their UHL suspensions.
No team in the UHL has bolstered their lineup like the Motor City Mechanics. The addition of Chris Chelios, Darren Hatcher and Kris Draper has made the Mechanics one of the top teams on paper in the UHL. Since the signing of the Red Wing players, the Mechanics are 1-1-0, including a shootout victory last night against the Rockford IceHogs.
