Rockford IceHogs News Release

Fraser, Mich.- In front of a near capacity crowd, the Rockford IceHogs clawed back from a 3-0 deficit to earn a shootout point against the Motor City Mechanics at the Garage in Fraser, Michigan in defenseman Chris Celios' United Hockey League debut. The shootout featured seven rounds, but Robinson was given the SOL after allowing just two goals.

Chelios began the scoring just 2:06 into the contest. While on the power play, the future Hall of Famer slapped in his first tally of the season through traffic. Forward Rick Smith made the contest 2-0 at the intermission when he scored at 17:10. The Hogs struggled through the first period with just five shots on Mechanics goalie Cory Campbell.

In the second frame, the Hogs came out with a vengance, but it was the Mechanics who would score once again. Ryan Baker picked up a perfect feed from Mike Burgoyhe after a Rockford turnover, and beat Robinson at 5:39 of the middle period to make the score 3-0.

Center Olivier Proulx started the Hogs comeback at 9:43 of the second period when he flipped a J.F. Dufour pass over Campbell. Later, on a power play, Rockford converted on a 3-on-2 break when winger Terry Harrison fired home a rebound to cut the lead to 3-2.

The Hogs didn't waste any time tying the game in the third period. Just 46 seconds into the final frame, defenseman Vince Malts blasted in the equalizer that eventually sent the game to a shootout. In the extra session, Joe Burton (round two) for Motor City and J.C. Ruid (round five) were the only skaters to crack the goalies. Robinson stopped both Chelios and Derian Hathcer in the extra session. Dan Price then tallied in round seven to give the Mechanics the win.

Robinson recovered from two early goals to turn away 31 shots while Campbell blocked 30. The Hogs finished 1-for-6 on the advantage while the Mechanics were 1-for-4. Dufour chipped in two assists helping the Hogs picked up the standings point.

Next Home Game: Wednesday, February 9 vs. Port Huron Beacons. Game time is 7:05 p.m. Wednesday is another PigOut Wednesday with the Hogs and the rock station, 104.9 FM, WXRX.
