Mechanics win in shootout!

Fraser, MI – In front of a sold out crowd at The Garage, the Motor City Mechanics earned a shootout victory on a goal from Dan Price to take a 4-3 win over the Rockford IceHogs.

Chris Chelios, making his UHL debut, scored his first goal as a Mechanic on a powerplay strike, giving Motor City a 1-0 lead 2:06 into the 1st period. Rick Smith scored with three minutes remaining in the first to lift the Mechanics to 2-0.

In the second period, Ryan Baker notched his third goal of the season. With the Mechanics leading 3-0, Rockford tallied three unanswered goals. Olivier Proulx and Terry Harrison each scored in the second period and Vince Malts found the back of the net 46 seconds into the third period to tie the game.

In the shootout, Joe Burton scored for Motor City and J.C. Ruid netted one for the IceHogs. But it was Price who beat Rockford goaltender Michel Robinson in the seventh round of the shootout to win the game. In goal, Robinson made 31 saves for the IceHogs, while Cory Campbell made 29 saves in his third victory of the season for the Mechanics.

The Mechanics remain at home throughout the rest of this weekend. Tomorrow, Saturday February 5th, Motor City will host the Kalamazoo Wings. Last Sunday, the Mechanics earned a late 4-3 victory over the Wings when Joe Burton scored with just 23 seconds remaining in the game. On Super Bowl Sunday, February 6th, game time is 2:00pm and the Quad City Mallards will be in town.
