
Cougars Toss 2nd Straight Shutout

Geneva, Illinois - The Kane County Cougars (47-38, 12-4) pitched their second consecutive shutout on Saturday night, defeating the Clinton LumberKings (43-42, 10-6) 2-0 in front of 8,157 fans. The win pushed the Cougars two games ahead of the LumbKings for first place in the Western Division.
Both Cougar runs came early. Tra Holmes belted the first pitch of the bottom of the first into left-center for a triple. He scored on Geraldo Perdomo's sacrifice fly. The Cougars tacked on in the second inning. Blaze Alexander and Zac Almond collected back-to-back one-out singles to set up a Joey Rose sacrifice fly, extending the lead to 2-0.
Ryan Weiss (3-5) was sharp on the mound from the jump. He struck out six batters and had a stretch in the second and third inning where he struck out four batters in a row. Weiss earned his second quality start of the year with six innings of shutout ball, surrendering two hits and earning the win. Kenny Hernandez (2) fired three scoreless frames to close the night to pick up the save. Hernandez scattered two hits and struck out three without walking a batter.
Alberto Guerrero (3-4) suffered the loss, giving up two runs in six innings on the mound. Nathan Alexander and Jeremy Ovalle pitched scoreless innings.
