Kane County Cougars News Release
GENEVA, Ill. - Left-handers Michael Heesch and Nathan Dorris combined to hold down the Dayton Dragons to just five hits as the Kane County Cougars pulled off their sixth straight victory by claiming a 2-0 final on Sunday afternoon at Fifth Third Bank Ballpark.
Heesch (1-2) tossed 7.1 innings while surrendering only four hits without walking a batter and fanning five. Zach Vincej led off the contest with a base hit and that was the only hit for Dayton (9-20) until a double from Joe Hudson in the top of the seventh as Heesch set down 20 consecutive batters.
In the bottom of the fourth, the Cougars (14-13) grabbed the advantage as Rock Shoulders started the frame by singling off starter Drew Cisco (2-2). Two batters later, Bijan Rademacher singled in front of a Wes Darvill walk which loaded the bases. Oliver Zapata came through with a base knock to bring home Shoulders, but Rademacher was cut down at the plate by right fielder Beau Amaral.
Another run came across for the Cougars in the bottom of the fifth with Gioskar Amaya cracking a double to lead off. Dan Vogelbach then laced a two-bagger down the left field line, bringina Amaya to put the Cougars up by a pair.
Heesch stayed out of trouble through most of the contest but allowed back-to-back singles in the top of the eighth before exiting the ballgame. Nathan Dorris (S, 2) took over and immediately induced a double play ball off the bat of Brent Peterson to end the threat. Dorris finished the contest despite coughing up a single in the ninth.
The Cougars and Dragons will finish their three-game series on Monday at 11:00 a.m. from Fifth Third Bank Ballpark. Right-hander Lendy Castillo (0-1) starts for the Cougars against fellow righty Sal Romano (2-2). For tickets, please call (630) 232-8811 or visit www.kccougars.com.
