Cougars Stymied by Fisher, Curlis

Kane County Cougars News Release

Geneva, Illinois - Andy Fisher and Connor Curlis combined to one-hit the Kane County Cougars (53-44, 18-10) in a 1-0 Dayton Dragons (42-56, 14-14) win on Saturday night at Northwestern Medicine Field. The loss was the Cougars second in a row.

Through the first five innings, both starting pitchers had a no hitter rolling. Cougar starter Jackson Goddard only allowed three base runners - a third inning hit-by-pitch, a fourth inning walk and a fourth inning error - before Michael Siani led off the sixth with a bunt single for the first hit of the night for either side. Goddard stranded Siani and ended his night with six scoreless innings.

Andy Fisher didn't allow a run or a hit in his start for the Dragons. He mowed through five innings, striking out eight and walking none. Connor Curlis (3-3) came out of the bullpen for Dayton and allowed Tra Holmes to rope a double to right-center for the Cougars first hit in the sixth. Curlis only allowed one other base runner after that, a one-out walk in the seventh. He earned the win with four shutout innings.

The game-winning blast came in the top of the seventh for Dayton, a Cameron Warren drive to left that Tra Holmes nearly robbed. The solo homer was the only run of the night. Blake Workman (1-4) allowed the long ball and took the loss.

The middle game of the three-game series between the Cougars and Dragons is Sunday afternoon with first pitch scheduled for 1:00. For tickets, call 630-282-8811 or online at kccougars.com.
