Kane County Cougars News Release
GENEVA, Ill. - The Kane County Cougars' offense is back. After going nearly three weeks without scoring more than five runs in a game and averaging 2.3 runs per game over the last 16 games, the Cougars knocked out eight runs on 13 hits Tuesday night to beat the Beloit Snappers, 8-4, in the opener of a six-game home stand at Elfstrom Stadium.
The Cougars scored in each of the first five innings, providing starter Sugar Ray Marimon (2-2) with plenty of support. Brian Fletcher nailed a two-run single in the bottom of the first against Andrei Lobanov (0-2) to make it 2-0. After Murray Watts belted a one-out solo homer in the second and Beloit scored a run in the top of the third, Fletcher nailed RBI singles in the third and fourth and Lane Adams added a run-scoring single for a 6-1 game. Alex Llanos busted open the game in the fifth with a two-out, two-run single to make it 8-1 after five innings.
Marimon lasted five innings, gave up one run and fanned seven in the win. Mitch Hodge gave up two runs in 2/3 of an inning, Jon Keck yielded one unearned run in 1 1/3 innings and Chase Boruff logged two scoreless frames to end it. The Cougars, who had lost 14 of their last 16 games, did suffer a pair of disappointments, as Fletcher and Ryan Jenkins left the game in the sixth and eighth innings, respectively.
