Clinton LumberKings News Release

Davenport, IA - Jake Schlander lined a three-run double to left in the sixth and Tim Morris homered and doubled to drive in two more as the Clinton LumberKings battled back from 6-1 and 8-6 deficits, but the Quad Cities River Bandits held on for an 8-7 win Tuesday night at Modern Woodmen Park.

Right-hander Taijuan Walker (L, 0-2) yielded three early runs and exited after just 2.1 innings and right-hander Stephen Kohlscheen surrendered a two-run homer to Jonathan Rodriguez as part of a three-run fifth as the River Bandits built a 6-1 advantage.

Bandits' right-hander Seth Blair (W, 1-3) gave up an RBI single to Robbie Anston in the fifth but nothing more over 5.0 innings, walking five and striking out five for his first professional win. However, his bullpen nearly failed him several times throughout the night.

Left-hander Ryan Copeland loaded the bases in the sixth as he walked Stefen Romero, allowed a ground-rule double to Mickey Wiswall and hit Matt Browning with a pitch. Schlander stepped up, delivering his first hit as a LumberKing with a frozen rope to left that emptied the bases. Schlander would be left stranded by right-hander Hector Corpas, but the Kings were back in the game trailing 6-4. Morris's majestic blast down the right-field line off Corpas in the seventh, his second of the season, cut the deficit to 6-5.

The Bandits put runners at the corners against right-hander Jonathan Arias in the bottom of the seventh and both would score to his line once right-hander Jandy Sena came in. Sena allowed an RBI single to Rodriguez and issued a wild pitch that scored Cody Stanley, pushing the Quad Cities' lead to 8-5.

The Kings didn't go quietly in the ninth, cutting the deficit back to a run. Anston singled and scored on Morris's double down the right-field line and Wiswall added a flare single to center to plate Morris on an 0-2 pitch from Corpas. Pinch-runner Kalian Sams replaced Wiswall as the tying run on base, but Bandits' right-hander Keith Butler (S, 3) was summoned to get the final out and did so, getting Browning to pop up to second-baseman Starlin Rodriguez. Schlander finished 1-for-4 with the double and three RBI, while Morris went 2-for-5 with the home run and two RBI. Anston singled three times, going 3-for-5 with a run scored and an RBI.

Stanely paced the River Bandits with a 4-for-5 game that included three runs scored. Rodriguez drove him in much of the time, finishing 2-for-3 with a home run, three runs scored and three RBI.

The LumberKings (9-24) continue the three-game series with the River Bandits (15-17) tomorrow night at Modern Woodmen Park, first pitch scheduled for 7:00 PM. Right-hander George Mieses (1-3, 3.98) starts for Clinton, while Quad Cities counters with left-hander Anthony Ferrara (3-1, 2.15).
