Lansing Lugnuts News Release
MIDLAND, Mich. - The Lansing Lugnuts (20-12) scored six runs in the top of the sixth inning to defeat the Great Lakes Loons (20-13) in a rout Tuesday night, 10-1, as they take over first place in the eastern division.
The Lugnuts' offense made it easy for starter Casey Lawrence (3-3) who allowed just one earned run and surrendering three hits in six strong innings of work.
Loons starter Derek Cone (1-2) struck out six and gave up a two-run home run in the top of the first to Lance Durham, but had his outing cut to just four innings due to pitch count.
Raul Burgos came in to keep the deficit at 2-1 for Great Lakes, but walked three and gave up three hits in the top of the sixth to put the game out of reach, 8-1. K.C. Hobson and Jake Marisnick each connected on 2-RBI singles.
Dayton Marze followed Lawrence well, picking up his first save this season by throwing three scoreless innings to close the game.
The Lugnuts look to extend their new division lead to 1 1/2 games on Wednesday night as lefty Sean Nolin (0-0, 0.71) throws for Lansing. Tim Sexton (2-2, 2.25) gets the start for Lake County with the first pitch coming at 7:05 PM.
