Battle Creek, MIâ The Kane County Cougars lost to the Battle Creek Yankees 12 â 5 in a Thursday night game at C.O. Brown Stadium in Battle Creek. Yankee first baseman John Urick went four for five with two, three run homers en route to the win.
The Cougars jumped out to an early lead in their first at bat when Brian Snyder slapped an RBI single to right field scoring Brian Ingram from second base. The Yankees would answer with four runs on five hits including a three run homer from John Urick taking a 4 â 1 lead.
The Cougars would get another run in the top of the second as Nick Rogers scored on an infield error making it a 4 â 2 game. The Yankees put four more runs on the board in the bottom of the inning including another three run homer from Urick. It chased Cougar starting pitcher Chris Dunwell and the Yankees had an 8 â 2 lead. Kane County came back to score three runs in the next inning highlighted by Nick Rogers two out RBI double making it an 8 â 5 game. The Yankees came back to touch reliever Manny Rodriguez for three runs in the bottom of the fourth to push it to a 11 â 5 advantage.
Mike McGirr came on to pitch for the Cougars in the bottom of the fifth and only allowed one run in his four innings on the mound.
The Cougars would not score over the final six innings and lost the game by the final score of 12 â 5. Amad Stephens picked up the win to go to (1 â 2) while Chris Dunwell took the loss to fall to (10 â 6) on the year.
The Cougars will wrap up the season series with the Yankees in a 6:00 p.m. game on Friday. Left hander Trent Peterson will head to the mound for the Cougars while Right-hander Jason Jones will get the call for the Yankees.
