Kane County Cougars News Release

BELOIT, Wisc. - The Kane County Cougars ended their final regular-season road trip Thursday night with a bitter, 3-2 defeat against the Beloit Snappers at Pohlman Field. They held leads of 1-0 and 2-1 before the Snappers, who committed five errors in the game, scored twice in the bottom of the ninth against Leonardo Espinal to walk off with the victory and stun the Cougars.

Todd Johnson had both of the Cougars' RBIs. He hit a sacrifice fly in the fifth off Mike McCardell to score Adam Klein for a 1-0 advantage and then had a run-scoring fielder's choice in the top of the ninth to bring home Matt Ray for a 2-1 lead. The Cougars stranded 12 runners in the game and went 1-2-3 only once.

Cougars starter Scott Hodsdon pitched six innings of three-hit shutout ball with no walks and five strikeouts but ended up with a no-decision. He departed with a 1-0 lead, but Nick Walters gave up a run in the seventh, and Espinal (5-5) served up four hits in the ninth, two of which came when Beloit was down to its final out.

The Cougars (31-35) went 4-4 on their eight-game trip and now return home to play the Peoria Chiefs at 6:30 CT on Friday night at Elfstrom Stadium. Tyson Ross (0-1, 5.02) is scheduled to face Chris Siegfried (5-6, 6.14).
