Bees Allow Just One Run but Cannot Score Any

Burlington, IA (Aug 28, 2008) - The Burlington Bees trailed wrapped up the home portion of the regular season schedule but could not go out on a victory as they fell to Quad Cities 1-0. Cedar Rapids did lose Thursday night so the Bees' magic number is now down to one.

The only run of the game came in the top of the fourth inning. Curt Smith led the inning off with a single and then moved to third on a Carlos Pupo double. Nick Peoples hit an RBI ground-out, which scored Smith and the River Bandits led 1-0.

Danny Gutierrez got the start for the Bees and pitched pretty well. He allowed just the one run on five hits with eight strikeouts and no walks in 5.2 innings. He took the loss and is now 4-4 on the season. Barry Bowden made his Bees debut and pitched the final 3.1 innings allowing one hit with three strikeouts.

The Bees had just four hits and were outhit 6-4. David Lough had two of the hits for the Bees.

The Bees begin their final regular season series at Beloit on Friday night. With a win, the Bees will clinch the second half western division title. Brent Fisher is the scheduled starter for the Bees. First pitch is scheduled for 7:00. The game can be heard on KQ92 and online at www.GoBees.com.
