Beloit Sky Carp News Release

Two runs in the bottom of the ninth inning led the Snappers past the Kane County Cougars in the final game of a four-game series, 3-2. Yangervis Solarte smashed a walk-off, RBI-single up the middle in the bottom of the ninth to give the Snappers to their second consecutive victory.

Both starters were dominant early, shutting down the opposing offenses through the first four innings. It wasn't until the top of the fifth inning when the Cougars would take a 1-0 lead. Todd Johnson hit a sac-fly to right field to put Kane County on top after four and a half.

Beloit then came back in the bottom of the seventh to tie the game up at 1-1 on a Greg Yersich RBI-single to center. Yersich singled home Mark Dolenc, who earlier singled himself, to notch the game up.

The Cougars then took the lead in the top of the ninth inning off of reliever Charles Nolte. Todd Johnson hit an RBI-ground out to shortstop with one out to give the Cougars the 2-1 lead.

The Snaps entered the bottom of the ninth inning in what looked to be another one-run loss. Fortunately, the offense wouldn't let that happen.

Estarlin De Los Santos hit a one-out single to left and Greg Yersich followed with a single of his own to put two one with one away. After a Juan Richardson strikeout, Allan de San Miguel hit a ball down the left field line that looked like it was heading out of the ballpark. Instead, the ball hit off the top of the wall and scored De Los Santos from second base. Yangervis Solarte then followed Allan with a walk-off single up the middle, scoring Yersich from third and giving Beloit the 3-2 victory.

Mike McCardell pitched brilliantly again, going seven innings and allowing just one unearned run on five hits.

Michael Tarsi pitched a perfect two thirds of an inning to pick up his sixth win of the year for the Snappers who improved to 33-33 in the second half.
