The Kernels have clinched a spot in the playoffs and return home for the final home stand of the regular season against the Clinton LumberKings on Friday, August 29. Here's a look at what's going on at Dale and Thomas Popcorn Field at Veterans Memorial Stadium:

August 29 - September 1 vs. Clinton LumberKings

The home stand kicks off on Friday, August 29 as the Kernels celebrate the start of the 2008 football season with Football Jersey Day - fans are encouraged to wear their favorite team's jersey to the game that night. It's also 94.1 KRNA Progressive Beer Night - draft beer starts at $1 when the gates open at 6 pm and goes up a buck every hour until it reaches full price. And after the game, enjoy the first of three post-game fireworks shows this home stand, presented by the Kernels and KWWL TV. The Kernels welcome special guests from All Saints School, the ADA, Meals on Wheels and CarePro Health Services to the game and they will recognize the 2008 Host Families and their players before the game. The Kernels and LumberKings are set to play at 7 o'clock.

Here's a chance to get your second set of Kernels baseball cards! Fans will receive a free set of 2008 Kernels Baseball cards, thanks to the Disabled American Veterans Group when they enter the stadium. After the game, enjoy the second post-game fireworks show, presented by the Kernels and KWWL TV. The gates open at 6 pm as the Kernels welcome special guests from Longfellow Elementary in Iowa City and Francis Marion Intermediate School. It's also Faith Night as the Kernels welcome local church groups to the game. First pitch between the Kernels and Clinton is set for 7 pm.

Sunday is always a fun day and this Sunday is extra special! It's a 104.5 KDAT Sunday Family Fun Day - fans can get autographs from the Kernel players on the field beginning at 1 pm, selected snacks are just $1 during the game and fans can run the bases and play catch in the outfield after the game, thanks to Steak N Shake. The Kernels welcome all the 1,000-minute summer reading program readers on Toyota Financial Services Kernels Summer Reader Recognition Day. And the first 2,000 fans through the gates receive a free 2008 Kernels Team Photo, thanks to Copyworks. The Kernels welcome special guests from Coe College and the Cougars Gold 12UAA National Champion baseball team to the game. Gates open at 1 pm and the Kernels and LumberKings play at 2 pm.

Here's a Labor Day you can appreciate! It's Fan Appreciation Day on Monday, September 1st when the Kernels wrap up the 2008 regular season against Clinton at 2 pm. The day begins early as the Kernels have teamed up with the Freedom Festival to host several events in and around Dale and Thomas Popcorn Field at Veterans Memorial Stadium.

The day starts with the Grand Ol' Pancake Breakfast from 8 until 11 am - enjoy a traditional outdoor breakfast with pancakes and sausage for just $5 for adults and $3 for children 10-under and receive $1 off for wearing your Freedom Festival Button. The Patriot's Bazaar and Farmers Market begins at 8 am in the parking lot as well as the Hawkeye Pedal Pull and the Action Zone. There will also be a petting zoo and train rides. There is a small fee for the Action Zone and train rides.

It's a Mix 96.5 FM / WMT AM 600 Belly Buster Monday when the Kernels take on Clinton at 2 pm. For just $7, plus the cost of a ticket, enjoy all you can eat hamburgers, hot dogs, chips and peanuts. The Kernels will also have Fan Appreciation concession specials of nachos and small bags of popcorn for $2 and large bags of popcorn for $3. There will also be souvenir specials and prize drawings during the game.

After the game, enjoy the sounds of Polyester Blend on the concourse until 7 pm. Then, enjoy the Fanfare to the Fireworks with the Cedar Rapids Municipal Band until 8 pm. And the day wraps up with the ‘Celebration of Community' fireworks show from the stadium with a simultaneous display launched at the soccer fields below the Cedar Rapids Ice Arena.

The Kernels have qualified for the playoffs! Purchased your tickets for the first game on Wednesday, September 3rd at 6:30 pm on-line at www.kernels.com , or by calling the Kernels Ticket Office at 896-7560. The Kernels could host up to five playoff games as they march towards the 2008 MWL Championship!

You could win a Harley Davidson FXDC motorcycle with chrome detailing as part of the Kernels Foundation season-long Harley raffle. Tickets are on sale for $5 each or five for $20 with the proceeds to go to the YMCA to help rebuild their downtown location. The drawing is Monday, September 1st after the Kernels game vs. Clinton at 2 pm and right before the Freedom Festival Fireworks. You need not be present to win, but you must be 16 years or older to buy a ticket or win the raffle. The winner is responsible for the tax, title and license fees. Tickets can be purchased at all Kernel home games and in the Bimm Ridder Diamond Shop during normal business hours (10 am to 5 pm, Monday through Friday and 10 am to 2 pm on Saturday). The raffle is sponsored by the Cedar Rapids Kernels, the Kernels Foundation, Metro Harley Davidson, Dale Lee Distributing and 94.1 KRNA.

Tickets for all Kernel home games may be purchased on-line at www.kernels.com ; in person at the Kernels Ticket Office, or by calling 896-7560 during Ticket Office hours. The Kernels Ticket Office is open from 10 am to 5 pm, Monday through Friday and from 10 am to 2 pm on Saturday. The ticket office is closed on Sunday, but opens at 11 am on Kernel Sunday Home games.
