GRAND CHUTE, WI -- Keith Meyer tossed six innings of shutout ball and the Wisconsin Timber Rattler offense scratched out just enough offense for a 3-1 win over the Cedar Rapids Kernels. Thursday's win was the final home game of the season for the Timber Rattlers.

Wisconsin (23-43 second half, 54-78 overall) got on the scoreboard first. Catcher Blake Ochoa tripled to start the Rattler half of the third inning. Maximo Mendez singled him in for the 1-0 lead. Then, Mendez stole second and would eventually score on a two-out RBI single by Joe Dunigan.

Meyer kept the playoff bound Kernels (38-28, 70-64) off the scoreboard and was rewarded with an insurance run in the fifth inning. Edilio Colina drove in Mendez with a two-out single for a 3-0 lead.

Meyer worked through a scoreless sixth inning before turning the ball over to Brett Lorin. Meyer, who was making only his third start out of 42 appearances this season, allowed just three hits, walked two, and struck out three.

Lorin, who was made his first appearance in a game since August 11, pitched a scoreless seventh. However, the Kernels scored an unearned run in the top of the eighth to inch closer.

Rob Harmon, who made his first appearance in a game since August 6, relieved in the top of the ninth to face the top of the Cedar Rapids order. The big right-hander retired the first two hitters, but gave up a double to Hector Estrella and a walk to Julio Perez. That brought up Jay Brossman as the go ahead run.

Brossman sent a high, deep fly ball to right-center, but Mendez ran the ball down in the gap to make the catch and record the final out.

The Rattlers concluded the 2008 home schedule with a record of 30-34.

Wisconsin wraps up their season with a four game road trip to face the Quad Cities River Bandits. Game one is Friday night at 7:00pm. The Rattlers have Juan Ramirez (6-9, 4.30) as the scheduled starting pitcher at Modern Woodmen Park. The River Bandits are sending Deryk Hooker (0-1, 1.62) to the mound.
