Prince George Cougars News Release
SASKATOON, SK - The Prince George Cougars fell to 2-2 on their Eastern Road Trip with a 5-3 setback to the Saskatoon Blades, Friday at the SaskTel Centre.
The scoring opened at 6:10 of the opening period when Charlie Wright netted his first goal of the season, beating Ty Young on the glove side. The Blades' offensive surge was momentarily halted when goaltender Austin Elliott made an incredible save, denying Riley Heidt's backdoor pass from Koehn Ziemmer. However, Saskatoon's pressure paid off as Misha Volotovskii extended the lead to 2-0 at 18:44, taking advantage of a Prince George turnover, despite being outshot 10-9.
The second period continued the Blades' scoring surge, with Tyler Parr netting his second goal of the season at 4:13, stretching the lead to 3-0. Rowan Calvert increased the gap to 4-0 with a wrist shot from the left circle just over two minutes later. Following the fourth goal, Josh Ravensbergen replaced Ty Young in the Prince George net. The Cougars managed to get on the scoreboard at 15:56 with Viliam Kmec's power-play goal, making it 4-1, but the Blades maintained their lead going into the third period.
In the third, the Cougars showed some resilience, narrowing the gap to 4-2 with an Oren Shtrom tap-in. However, the Blades responded immediately, with Egor Sidorov finding the back of the net just 10 seconds after Shtrom's goal, re-establishing their three-goal lead at 5-2. Prince George managed one more goal at 18:28, courtesy of Riley Heidt's power-play strike, but it proved too little too late, resulting in a final score of 5-3 in favour of the Blades.
