GENEVA, Ill. - The Kane County Cougars bats stayed hot, as the offense racked up 12 runs on 13 hits in a 12-3 win over the Winnipeg Goldeyes on Friday night at Northwestern Medicine Field.
Kane County (16-16) got the scoring started in the bottom of the second against Winnipeg (12-19) starter Tyler Jandron (1-3). Following a JD Osborne walk, Pete Kozma singled through the right side to score Davis and make it 2-0. Winnipeg finally got to Cougars' starter Jack Fox (4-1) in the bottom of the third. Jayvean Williams hit a solo homer and later in the inning Andy Armstrong drove in a run with a groundout. However, the Cougars responded quickly in the fourth. Jimmy Kerrigan led off the inning by reaching on a dropped third strike and came in to score on another RBI single by Pete Kozma to make it 5-2.
The Cougars came up with another four-run inning in the fifth. Cornelius Randolph and TJ Bennett started the frame with back-to-back singles before Gio Brusa walked to load the bases. Then, Kerrigan roped a double down the left field line to score two more runs to make it 7-2. Later in the inning, Jonah Davis and Osborne hit back-to-back sacrifice flies to make it 9-2.
Kane County went on to add three more runs in the sixth inning, while Winnipeg scored one more run in the seventh. On the mound, the Cougars benefitted from another quality start by Jack Fox. The right-hander allowed two runs (one earned) on six hits with three strikeouts against three walks across six innings of work.
