Kane County Cougars News Release
GENEVA, Ill.-Racing back from a 5-2 deficit, the Kane County Cougars drew a 6-5 victory over the Peoria Chiefs on Saturday night at Fifth Third Bank Ballpark, holding their elimination number at one between them and the Burlington Bees, who were rained out.
Justin Trapp launched a solo home run to set the Cougars (67-71, 33-35) on the right foot in the bottom of the first as he took Jeff Antigua (2-3) deep to start the contest. Peoria (62-74, 27-40) grabbed the lead in the second with an Oliver Zapata two-run double against Kellen Moen which brought home Chadd Krist and Jacob Rogers.
Batting back quickly, the Cougars evened the score at 2-2 in the bottom of the third as Tim Ferguson doubled, stole third and scored on a sac fly off the bat of Jack Lopez. It didn't stay tied for long though as the Chiefs reclaimed the advantage in the fourth. Krist doubled in front of a Rogers single while Zapata walked to load the bases. Bijan Rademacher cashed in for the Chiefs with a three-run double to put Peoria up, 5-2.
Kevin David singled home Alex Llanos in the fourth before the Cougars pushed through the sixth with three runs to take the lead. Llanos singled and scored on a Ferguson knock while a bunt base hit from Trapp allowed Julio Aparcio to score the tying. Justin Berg relieved Antigua and fired a wild pitch to bring home Ferguson for the go-ahead run score. Rudy Brown (3-0) and Cody Fassold (S, 2) did the rest for the Cougars as they combined for five scoreless innings.
