Kane County Cougars News Release

GENEVA, Ill. - The Kane County Cougars smacked six extra-base hits including three home runs to earn an 8-3 victory over the Lake Country DockHounds on Friday night at Northwestern Medicine Field.

The Cougars (13-13) jumped out to an early lead against Lake Country (9-16) starter Nick Herold (3-2). In the bottom of the first, Cornelius Randolph crushed a solo shot to right field that left the building. It was Randolph's second home run of the season in his first game in the lineup since May 31st.

In the top of the second, the DockHounds got on the board against Tyler Beardsley (2-1). Dustin Woodcock and Marcus Chiu hit back-to-back singles to start off the inning. Then, Nick Banks grounded out to second to score Woodcock and tie the game at one.

After Lake Country tied it, the Cougars responded in a big way in the bottom of the third. Galli Cribbs Jr. walked to lead off the frame before Josh Allen drove him in with a double to left-center field. Later in the inning, TJ Bennett knocked in another run on a single to make it 3-1. The Cougars would add two more in the frame as Jonah Davis was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded and Daniel Wasinger walked to drive in another run and make it 5-1.

Lake Country cut into the Cougars lead in the top of the sixth. After Beardsley had mostly cruised, Blake Tiberi belted a two-run homer over the right field wall to make it 5-3. However, in the next half inning Wasinger crushed a solo homer to make it 6-3.

In the top of the seventh the DockHounds loaded the bases against Daniel Bies, but Armond Upshaw made a diving catch on a Demetrius Sims fly ball to end the inning.

Wasinger gave the Cougars more insurance in the eighth. Davis led off the frame with a double down the right field line. Then, Wasinger blasted his second home run of the night to make it 8-3.

On the mound, Tyler Beardsley earned the win and tossed his fifth quality start of the season. Beardsley allowed just three runs on six hits and had seven strikeouts with no walks. After Beardsley departed, Daniel Bies and Logan Nissen combined to hold Lake Country off the board in the final three frames.

The Cougars continue the series with the DockHounds on Saturday night in Geneva. Right-hander Randall Delgado will take the hill for Lake Country, while the Cougars starter is to be announced. Saturday's game is SpongeBob Night at the ballpark, and will feature postgame fireworks. For tickets and more information call 630-232-8811 or visit kccougars.com/tickets.
