Cougars Announce Trades with Blades, Wheat Kings

PRINCE GEORGE, BC- The Prince George Cougars Hockey Club have made a pair of trades with the Brandon Wheat Kings and Saskatoon Blades, the team announced Thursday.

The Cougars have acquired defenceman Majid Kaddoura ('01), a first-round WHL Bantam Draft Selection in 2020 & the rights to unsigned 2003-born forward Jayden Watson from the Saskatoon Blades, in exchange for defenceman Rhett Rhinehart ('01) and a third-round WHL Bantam Draft Selection in 2020.

The Cougars have also acquired forward Jonny Hooker ('01) from the Brandon Wheat Kings in exchange for forward Reid Perepeluk ('00).

"The moves today fits into our plan for not only our future but for right now as well. Getting another first-round selection in what is a very talented 2005-born draft class is what we were striving for," said General Manager & Head Coach Mark Lamb. "Reid and Rhett were good players for our organization, and it was a tough decision to make these moves but they were made with our future in mind."

Kaddoura, 18, was in his second season with the Blades and has two goals and eight assists for 10 points in 36 games. In two seasons in the WHL, the Chestermere, AB product has played in 77 career regular season games, scoring three goals and nine assists for 12 points. The 6'2, 177-pound blue-liner also played in two career playoff games.

Prior to joining the Blades in the last season, the left-handed shot defenceman played at the Edge School in the CSSHL. Kaddoura had five goals and 20 assists for 30 points in 35 games with Edge in the 2017-2018 season. Kaddoura signed with the Blades in August 2017.

16-year-old Jayden Watson is currently playing with his hometown Grand Prairie Storm Midget AAA in the Alberta Midget Hockey League (AMHL). Watson has five goals and 16 assists for 21 points in 25 games in the AMHL. The 6'0, 185-pound forward was drafted by the Blades in the eighth-round, 162nd overall, in the 2018 WHL Bantam Draft.

With the acquisition of the Blades first-round selection in 2020, the Cougars now have three first-round selections in the upcoming WHL Bantam Draft.

Hooker, 18, is in his third season in the Western Hockey League (WHL) and has eight goals and five assists for 13 points in 34 games. The Winnipeg, Manitoba product has tallied 14 goals and 13 assists for 27 points in 134 career regular season games with the Wheat Kings. Hooker was drafted by the Wheat Kings in the eighth round, 175th overall, in the 2016 WHL Bantam Draft.

Prior to playing in the WHL, the 6'1, 186 pound forward played Midget Prep at the Rink Hockey Academy in the Canadian Sport School Hockey League (CSSHL). He was the top goal-scorer at the Midget Prep level in the 2016-2017 season with 30 goals to goal along with 42 points in 30 games.

Rhinehart played in 133 career regular season games with the Cougars over three seasons, amassing 11 goals and 32 assists for 33 points. Rhinehart was originally drafted by the Prince Albert Raiders in the first-round, 13th overall, in the 2016 WHL Bantam Draft.

Perepeluk played in 96 career regular season games with the Cougars over the last three years. Perepeluk had eight goals and 11 assists for 19 points. He was drafted by Prince George in the sixth-round, 114th overall, in the 2015 WHL Bantam Draft.

Hooker and Kaddoura will join the Cougars this weekend for their games against the Prince Albert Raiders and Saskatoon Blades on Friday and Saturday.
