Blazers Acquire Zabransky from Warriors
January 9, 2020 - Western Hockey League (WHL)
Kamloops Blazers News Release
Kamloops, BC - General Manager Matt Bardsley announced today that the hockey club has acquired 19-year-old defenseman Libor Zabransky from the Moose Jaw Warriors in exchange for 18-year-old forward Martin Lang.
Zabransky, who stands at 6'1" and 197lbs, has played 136 WHL games with Kelowna, Saskatoon and Moose Jaw over the past three seasons and has six goals, 33 assists and 39 points. This season he has played 29 games between Saskatoon and Moose Jaw and has two goals and 11 points.
The Brno, Czech Republic native has represented his country at the Under-17, Under-18 and Under-20 level. He most recently was the captain of the Czech Republic National Junior team at the World Junior Championships. In five games in the tournament, he had four goals.
"We are excited about the addition of Libor to our group," commented General Manager, Matt Bardsley. "He was recently the captain of the Czech Republic national junior team and had a great performance at the World Junior tournament. With only six defensemen on our roster, we felt it was important to add a defenseman to our team."
"To get a good player you have to give up a good player in Martin Lang," said Bardsley. "With the emergence of our younger forwards, this allowed this trade to be possible. We would like to thank Marty for his time with the Blazers and we wish him all the best in Moose Jaw," concluded Bardsley.
Zabransky is expected to join the Blazers for a weekend home and home set with the Kelowna Rockets.
With the addition of Zabransky, the Blazers roster is at 22 players including 13 forwards, seven defensemen and two goaltenders.
