Hickory, NC - The Crawdads defeated the Bowling Green Hot Rods 5-2 on Friday evening in front of a packed LP Frans Stadium.
The 'Dads got things going in the fourth inning, taking a 3-0 lead over the Hot Rods. Pedro Gonzalez led the inning off with a single to right and got himself in scoring position with his fourth steal of the year. Frainyer Chavez singled to put runners on the corners for Crawdads RBI leader Blaine Crim. Crim hit the team's third consecutive single to bring in Gonzalez and give Crim his 25th RBI of the season. With Trey Hair at the plate, the 'Dads executed a double steal, with Chavez taking third and Crim going to second. Hair hit a grounder to third, but Chavez was able to score the team's second run and Crim took third. Garcia grounded out as well, but Crim scored to cap off the three-run rally.
Bowling Green was able to get a run back in the fifth inning to make the score 3-1.
The Crawdads quickly pushed their lead back to three in the home half of the fifth as Jose Acosta hit a leadoff homerun, his fourth of the season.
On the mound for the 'Dads, starter Zak Kent pitched six strong frames. He allowed one run on three hits, walked two and struck out seven.
The Crawdads struck again in the sixth to make the score 5-1. Chavez started the inning with a leadoff double and advanced on a ground out by Crim. He came in to score on a balk by the Bowling Green pitcher.
The Hot Rods got a run across in the seventh off reliever Sean Chandler with a solo homerun to center. Grant Anderson took over in the ninth and nailed down the save, his second of the season.
The Couch Potatoes will take the field one last time tomorrow evening for a 7pm game. The first 1,000 fans to the game will get a potato bank thanks to Big Dawg 92.1.
