SCHAUMBURG - The Normal CornBelters, presented by Illinois Corn Farmers, gave up a three-run first inning and did not recover in a 6-2 loss to the Schaumburg Boomers on Saturday night at Boomers Stadium.

The Boomers struck in the first inning on consecutive one-out singles by Sean Mahley and Frank Pfister, followed by a double steal to put them at second and third. Mahley scored on a base hit by Steve McQuail, and Pfister scored on a close play at the plate on a ground ball to first to put the Boomers ahead 2-0. McQuail scored on a single up the middle by Drew Heithoff to give the Boomers a 3-0 lead after one frame.

The CornBelters cut the deficit to 3-2 in the fifth inning. Trey Manz led off with a walk and scored on two throwing errors on a ball hit to third by Andrew Cohn, and Cohn scored on a squeeze bunt by Ty Wiesemeyer.

Schaumburg extended the lead to 4-2 on a towering home run to left field by Jereme Milons to lead off the home half of the fifth. The Boomers made it 6-2 leading off the eighth with back-to-back home runs by Steve McQuail and Chad Mozingo.

Tyler Stovall (1-6) took the loss with a complete-game effort, surrendering nine hits while walking two and striking out six. Matt Kuna (2-0) pitched seven innings of two-hit ball to take the win. Patrick Mincey recorded the final four outs for his eighth save.

The series concludes on Sunday afternoon at 1:00 as right-hander Daniel Britt (3-4, 4.95 ERA) starts for the CornBelters against the host Boomers lefty Cameron Roth (5-3, 2.77 ERA). Pre-game on WJBC.com begins at 12:50.Angels' Dan Haren Pitching For 66ers Monday
