Southern Illinois Miners News Release

Marion, IL - Southern Illinois Miners starter Cody Hall pitched his first complete game of his professional career to earn his third win of the season as the Miners defeated the Joliet Slammers 4-0. Hall gave up three hits, walked three and struck out five in his complete effort.

The Miners scored first in the bottom of the first inning off Slammers starter Steven Maxwell as Carlos Mendez hit a sacrifice fly to score Darian Sandford to give the Miners a 1-0 lead. Alvaro Ramirez was on first and Steven Maxwell attempted to pick him off at first base, which allowed him to move to second base. This would set up a double by Chad Maddox that would bring Ramirez in to score to give the Miners a 2-0 lead.

The Miners would score again with two outs in the bottom of the sixth inning off Maxwell as Jason Ganek hit a two run home run to bring in Ken Gregory, who singled with two outs to give the Miners a 4-0 lead. Maxwell would go six innings in his start. He gave up six hits and four runs (three earned). He walked one batter and struck out two. Slammers relievers Daniel Carela and Mike Barsotti each threw an inning in relief.

The Miners improve to 30-20 with the win. The Miners trail the Traverse City Beach Bums by three games in the Eastern Division. The Miners look to get the series win as they send Dave Harden to the mound (6-1, 2.86 ERA) against Jacob Sanchez (1-0, 0.00 ERA) tomorrow at Rent One Park. First pitch is scheduled for 5:05 pm.
