CornBelters Sweep Greys for 4th Straight Win

Normal, Ill. - The Normal CornBelters, presented by Illinois Corn Farmers, used a six-run fifth inning to break ahead for good and sweep the Frontier Greys 11-4 for their fourth straight win.

The Greys opened the scoring on a two-run line drive home run to left field by Jon Minucci, driving in Frank Florio who had reached base via lead-off walk.

The CornBelters answered in their half of the fourth with a bases-loaded walk to Roman Hernandez and a sacrifice fly to right by Dylan Kelly for his second professional RBI to even the game at 2-2.

The Belters broke the tie in the next frame with a three-run homer to the left field berm by Sam Judah and a two-run double by Kelly for his first pro hit, followed by a a double by Jhiomar Veras to go ahead 8-2. Mike Schwartz homered to left to lead off the sixth inning to push the advantage to 9-2.

The Greys chipped into the lead with a two-out, two-run double by Chris Ellison to cut their deficit to 9-4. Richard Lucas bombed a two-run homer high onto the left field lawn in the eighth to complete the scoring.

Bobby Shore (3-1) picked up the win with 6.2 innings, giving up four earned runs on six hits with three walks and six strikeouts. Josh Hildebrand (0-2) gave up the big fifth inning and took the loss.

The Belters return home July 8 to begin a four-game homestand starting with the Joliet Slammers beginning with a doubleheader that night, but first hit the road for six games opening with a three-game series at Windy City on Tuesday through Thursday followed by three-games next weekend at Schaumburg.
