CornBelters fall 9-2

June 28, 2012 - Frontier League (FL)
Normal CornBelters News Release

The only thing hotter than the temperature at game time may have been the Boomers' bats, as they jumped out to an early 6-0 lead in the top of the 1st. Normal starter Tyler Lavigne (3-2) had to be removed during the inning with symptoms of heat exhaustion. Schaumburg added another tally in the top of the 2nd.

The 'Belters got on the board in the bottom of the 2nd when shortstop Chico Gomez sent a two-run shot over the wall in left, his second in as many days, cutting the Boomer lead to 7-2.

Schaumburg would get a run in the 5th and 6th respectively to extend their lead to 9-2. Robby Donovan (5-1) collected the victory for Schaumburg.

The 'Belters stranded 13 base runners in the contest.

The series wraps up Friday when LHP Jacob Liedka (1-2, 3.67 ERA) goes for Normal against RHP Tyler Watkins (1-4, 4.29 ERA) of Schaumburg. Pregame begins at 6:20 on WJBC.com.
