Miners Take Series in Joliet

Joliet, IL - The Southern Illinois Miners defeated the Joliet Slammers 7-4 and took the series. Cody Hall (1-0) earned his first victory of his professional career. He pitched five innings and gave up three hits. He allowed three runs (two earned) and walked one batter.

The Slammers took an early lead off Miners starer Cody Hall in the bottom of the first as the Slammers took a 2-0 lead. The Miners came right back in the top of the second inning off Slammers starter Jake Renshaw as Sean Coughlin hit a two run home run to tie the game at 2-2. The Miners took the lead in the top of the fourth inning as Sean Coughlin grounded into a double play to bring in Sean Harrell to give the Miners a 3-2 lead.

The Slammers scored a run in the bottom of the fifth inning off Cody Hall to tie the game at 3-3. The Miners scored a run in the top of the sixth inning to takea 4-3 lead. Ken Gregory came through with the base hit and RBI to score Will Block. The Miners scored three runs in the top of the eighth inning off Slammers relievers Daniel Carela (one run) and Brian Smith (two runs) to take a 7-3 lead. Elliot Hagburg came through with a base hit and RBI and Sean Coughlin added a two run double. The Slammers scored a run in the bottom of the eighth to make it 7-4 in favor of the Miners.

The Miners would go on and win the game 7-4 as Max Peterson closed out the game to earn his twelfth save of the season. The Miners improve to 23-15 and are three games behind Traverse City in the Eastern Division. The Miners go for the sweep tomorrow at Silver Cross Field with first pitch at 7:05 pm.
