River City Rascals News Release

Avon, Ohio. - The Rascals (22-16) allowed eight runs on nine hits in the fifth inning that broke open a 2-2 game leading to an 11-6 win for the Crushers (18-20).

River City loaded the bases in the second inning with nobody out but pushed across just one run on a sacrifice fly from Ben Hewett to give the Rascals the 1-0 lead before the Crushers pushed back in front in the third with two runs.

The Rascals would load the bases with two outs in the third inning but failed to score again until they tied it at 2-2 in the fifth after a lead-off double from Doug Sanders and a two-out double from Josh Workman.

Four consecutive single off Jason Sullivan (2-1) chased him from the game but Justin Gill struggled as well, allowing three hits, two of them doubles, including a bases clearing two-bagger from Brian Erie before Doug Shields entered the game as the third pitcher of the inning. After allowing two singles in the fifth, Shields settled down, allowing the Rascals to get back into the game.

River City scored four runs in the sixth, all coming across with two outs. Curran Redal started the inning with a single, Hewett singled himself, and after two lineouts to short, Doug Sanders brought in a run with a single followed by back-to-back doubles from Gerardo Avila and Jason Patton to close the score to 10-6.

It would remain 10-6 as the Rascals got just two hits the rest of the way while Brandon Cunniff allowed a homerun to start the eighth for the final margin of 11-6.

River City will try to avoid being swept for the first time this season tomorrow with first pitch set for 6:05 CT. The Rascals will send Tony Marsala (2-2, 3.38) to the mound against Lake Erie's Josh Rickards (2-1, 4.60).
