Normal CornBelters News Release

AVON, Ohio - The Normal CornBelters, presented by Illinois Corn Farmers, began a brief three-game road trip with a 7-1 loss to the Lake Erie Crushers on Tuesday night at All Pro Freight Stadium.

The CornBelters scored in the opening frame when Tyler Wiesemeyer was hit by a pitch to lead off, then stole second and went to third on an errant throw, followed by an RBI single with two outs by Ernie Banks Jr.

The Crushers tied the game in the fourth inning with a two-out home run by Robbie Kuzdale high onto the berm beyond the left field fence.

The hosts took a 3-1 lead on a pair of runs in the fifth inning after Wally Correa led off with a base hit, was sacrificed to second and scored on a single to center by Adrian Ortiz. Ortiz moved to second on the throw home, then scored on a base hit by Daniel Bowman to give the Crushers a two-run advantage.

Lake Erie put up a crooked number in the sixth as Wally Correa hit his second home run of the season, a three-run drive to left center, to increase the lead to 6-1.

The Crushers added an unearned run in the seventh when Daniel Bowman reached on a leadoff error, went to third on a fielder's choice and scored on a sacrifice fly to deep center by Andrew Davis to extend the lead to 7-1.

Trevor Longfellow (7-2) picked up the win in relief. CornBelters starter Jacob Liedka (2-10) went six innings and took the loss.

The CornBelters continue the series on Wednesday night with a 6:05 p.m. Central first pitch in suburban Cleveland as they send right-hander Ross Davis (1-0, 0.00 ERA) to the mound against Crushers righty Eric Gonzalez-Diaz (6-7, 4.55 ERA). Pre-game on WJBC.com begins at 5:50 at All Pro Freight Stadium.
