
CornBelters Complete Sweep of Otters with 7th Straight Win

NORMAL, Ill. - The Normal CornBelters, presented by Illinois Corn Farmers, captured their seventh straight win by completing a sweep of the Evansville Otters with a 4-3 win on Thursday night at the Corn Crib.
The CornBelters scored twice in the fifth inning to open the scoring on an error that plated Cameron Monger and a single by Mark Micowski that scored Ozney Guillen.
The Otters cut the deficit to 2-1 in the seventh on four straight singles with one out with Shayne Houck scoring on a base hit by Nik Balog.
The Belters added two more tallies in the seventh inning when Monger reached on a single and went to second on an error to lead off, then went to third on a sacrifice bunt by Guillen, who reached on an error that led to the ejection of Otters manager Andy McCauley. Monger scored on a double by Tyler Shover and Guillen came home on a sacrifice fly to build the advantage to 4-1.
Chris Carmain (8-2) worked seven innings for the win, giving up five hits and the lone run (earned) with no walks and six strikeouts. Trevor Walch (8-8) exited the game during the Belters' big seventh inning and took the loss. Race Parmenter gave up a lead-off double in the ninth to Dane Phillips and a long two-run homer to Chris Sweeney with two outs, followed by a triple to right center by Josh Allen, but earned the final out via strikeout for his 22nd save.
The CornBelters begin the final regular season series on Friday at 6:35 p.m. against two-time defending champion Schaumburg. CEFCU Fireworks Friday features a post-game sky show.
