Thursday, September 3, 2015 - 7:05 p.m. ET
UC Health Stadium - Florence, KY
Game #93 - Home Game #51 (47-45), (24-26)
RHP #32 Jeremy Gooding (7-4, 2.60 ERA) vs. LHP #30 Jake Fisher (5-6, 5.05 ERA)
Last time out...
The Freedom lost 9-2 on Wednesday. Windy City scored a run in every inning on Wednesday except for the fourth and the seventh. It was a rough outing for Coleman Stephens (4-5) as he gave up six runs on eight hits in five innings. Max White's two-out RBI double in the first put Windy City up 1-0. Jacob Tanis added a RBI double in the second and another run scored on a double play in the third. Windy City scored three in the fifth. Coco Johnson homered, as did Austin Gallagher. Gallagher's shot was a two-run blast to out Windy City up 6-0. An Alex Chittenden solo homer in the sixth made it 7-0. Florence finally got on the board against Travis Tingle (7-7) in the bottom of the sixth. Daniel Fraga doubled to start the frame. One out later Austin Newell drew a walk. Frazier Hall delivered a two-RBI triple to cut the score to 7-2. That's as close as the Freedom would get as Windy City scored a run in the eighth and the ninth to provide their final margin of victory.
For Starters...
Reigning Frontier League Pitcher of the Week Jeremy Gooding is making his 15th start of the year tonight for the Freedom. He is coming off a complete game shutout against the Frontier Greys on August 28, as we scattered six hits and struck out eight along the way to the first nine-inning complete game thrown by a Freedom pitcher this season. Gooding has won two straight starts and has not allowed a run in 15 consecutive innings. On top of that, he hasn't allowed an earned run at home over his past four starts. The 24 year old went to school at Madonna University in Michigan. He made his professional debut in 2014 with the Fort Worth Cats of the United League. He also pitched with Amarillo of the American Association in 2014 and compiled a record of 2-2 with a 1.62 ERA in 8 starts between the two organizations. He struck out 56 batters in 55.2 innings and tossed two complete games with one shutout.
The playoff chase...
If the season ended today the Freedom would be in the playoffs. The Freedom are currently tied with the Rockford Aviators for the final spot in the Frontier League playoffs with four games to play. Florence holds the tiebreaker.
Going for the series win...
The Freedom are looking for their sixth consecutive series with a victory tonight.
Organization of the Year!
The Freedom were named the 2015 Frontier League Organization of the Year in a vote by the league's General Managers. Freedom GM Josh Anderson won Executive of the Year in the FL.
Run and run some more...
The Freedom's 141 stolen bases are second to the River City Rascals (145) in the Frontier League.
Get that lead...
When the Freedom lead after seven innings they have a record of 38-2. However they are only 2-37 when trailing after seven innings.
Home sweet home?
The Freedom are only 24-26 at home this season. Luckily the ThunderBolts are the worst road team in the league at 13-28.
Getting on base...
Frazier Hall is fitting right in with the Freedom's philosophy of working the count. Through 23 games with Florence he's drawn 19 walks and has a team-high .453 OBP. Overall, the Freedom have drawn 337 walks this season, the third most in the league.
Five or more...
Florence is 35-4 when scoring five or more runs in a game this season.
Offensive revival...
After only hitting .223 as a team in the month of July, the Freedom hit .268 as a team in August. Sam Eberle led the way as usual last month with a .361 average, 3 HR and 17 RBI.
Tonight's Special Jersey Number...
Travis Weaver is wearing the blue 61 jersey tonight to benefit The Brain Injury Alliance of KY.
