Avon, OH The Joliet Slammers (40-53) shut out Lake Erie (38-54) 2-0 in their final road game of the season.

David Kubiak turned in a gem, pitching a complete-game 5-hit shutout, while striking out seven and walking two. He lowered his ERA to 2.16 and moves to 7-6 on the season. Kubiak has now struck out 92 in 95 1/3 innings and has allowed only 75 hits. The Crushers' Brad Duffy suffered the loss, allowing two runs on 7 hits and striking out eight. He was lifted in the 5th inning. Five Lake Erie relievers split the final 4 2/3 shutout innings. Jeremy Nowak and Alfredo Rodriguez provided the Joliet offense with a pair of RBI singles.

The Slammers return home tomorrow (Friday, Sept. 4th) at 7:05pm to open the season-ending three game series vs. Rockford. The opener will be a Fireworks Friday and will be Halloween as well. Dress up and receive a drink voucher. Saturday at 6:05pm will be Breast Cancer Awareness Night and Sunday at 5:05pm closes out the regular season with Fan Appreciation Night.
