Marion, Ill. (September 2, 2015) - The Southern Illinois Miners led 3-1 after three innings, but the Gateway Grizzlies again used the home run ball to come back to tie the game, then take the lead with four runs in the sixth to win by a score of 10-7 at GCS Ballpark.

Miners starter Jarett Miller was staked to an early lead thanks to two big RBI doubles with two outs by Jerrud Sabourin, a two-run base hit in the first inning and a one-run hit in the third as the Miners led 3-1 after three innings of play. But Gateway continued to hit home runs at their home ballpark and three of them in consecutive innings put Gateway ahead, as Tyler Tewell's solo shot in the fourth made it a one-run game, 3-2, before Craig Massoni tied it with another solo homer.

In the sixth, Brandon Cowan (2-3) relieved Miller and Tewell greeted him with another solo homer, his second of the night and the fourth in the series, for a 4-3 Gateway lead. The Grizzlies would tack on three more runs in the frame and lead 7-4 after six innings.

The Miners then took advantage of three Grizzlies errors in the top of the seventh to get back within one at 7-6. Michael Earley led off with a single and was safe at second on a fielder's choice with the pitcher throwing wide of the covering shortstop at second base. After a flyout moved the runners over, Frank Martinez hit his first of two sac-flies on the night to make it a 7-4 game before another error allowed Sabourin to reach and a second run to score to make it 7-5. Sabourin moved to second on a Steve Marino single and then stole third, with the throw from Tewell behind the plate getting past third base down the line as the score was 7-6.

But Gateway would score three in the bottom of the eighth, with the Miners plating a run in the ninth for the final 10-7 score. Southern Illinois will look to avoid a road sweep in the series finale on Thursday night at 7:05 p.m., with Miguel Ramirez facing the Grizzlies' Vincent Molesky.
