Two Evansville Otters Named to Post-Season All-Star Team
September 3, 2015 - Frontier League (FL)
Evansville Otters News Release
Evansville, IN- The Otters are proud to announce that two members of the team have been vote to the Post-Season All-Star team in the Frontier League: John Schultz and Edgar Lopez.
The two picks were no brainers for those around the Frontier League. Both were named to the mid-season All-Star teams and were just as good in the second half of the season. John Schultz has been in the top ten in the league in batting average all season long and currently sits at fourth in the league at .336.
He is sixth in the league in runs with 65 runs scored, which is made all the more impressive because the reigning MVP in the league, Shayne Houck, missed more than a month of the second half of the season. Schultz' is also atop the Frontier League leaderboard in doubles as his 26 are tied for third, two behind the leaders, which is tied for most in a single season in Otters history. He has 15 home runs this year, which is tied for tenth in the league and his 51 RBI lead the Otters, so too do his 41 walks. His 114 hits on the season are a new single season record for the Otters and he is fourth in the league in that category.
Lopez was just as impressive locking down the back of the bullpen for the Otters. Lopez has led the Frontier League in saves all season long and his 25 this season are a single season mark for the Otters while the closest reliever in the league trails him by four in the category. He has blown just one save all season long and that came against the Gateway Grizzlies at GCS Ballpark on a home run that would have been playable and caught at every other ballpark in the Frontier League.
Lopez has pitched 31 innings this year, picking up 34 strikeouts in that time and his 1.45 ERA would be second best in the league if he reached the innings pitched minimum (the only pitcher he would be training is fellow Otter Connor Little). The Evansville areas also received one other accolade as the Evansville Courier and Press was named the newspaper of the year in the Frontier League.
