Wolff Stadium, San Antonio, Texas - Third baseman Corey Smith was named the Texas League's Player of the Week for August 4 - 10. Smith batted .409 (9-for-22) in six games during the week and bashed five home runs along with three doubles and six RBI. He recorded a pair of multi-home run games on August 4 and August 7 and currently ranks second in the league with 22 home runs and is tied for second with 52 extra-base hits.
The 26-year old from Piscataway, New Jersey was signed by the Angels during the 2007 offseason after an all-star season for the Atlantic League's (Ind.) Newark Bears. He leads or is tied for the Travs team lead in extra offensive categories including games played (115), home runs, RBI (73) and doubles (29).
During a six-game stretch from August 2 through August 8, Smith was 11-for-23 with six homers, two doubles, eight RBI and eight runs scored.
