Midland RockHounds News Release

The RockHounds are right in the middle of a tight playoff race with San Antonio, with just 21 regular season games remaining. To earn a playoff berth, the RockHounds will need to either win the 2nd Half (one game behind Frisco) or come away with the 2nd best overall record (half game behind San Antonio) if Frisco wins the second half.

The 2008 Texas League Division Series would start on Wednesday, September 3rd in Frisco. The format is broken down into a best-of five series, with the winner advancing to the Texas League Championship on Tuesday, September 9th.

The 2nd half champion will receive home field advantage in the best-of-five.

The South has home field advantage in the Championship Series this year. (home-field rotates on a yearly basis).

If the RockHounds win the 2nd half they could have games on the following dates - (9/5, 9/6, 9/7, 9/12, 9/13, 9/14).

If Frisco wins the 2nd half and the RockHounds win the wild card the Divisional series would play out in a 2-2-1 format with Frisco having home-field advantage.

ROSTER MOVEMENT

The RockHounds added Adrian Cardenas (middle infielder that came over to the A's in the Joe Blanton trade with Philadelphia). Cardenas was ranked as the Phillies #2 prospect at the beginning of the year and has hit well over .300 in stops at Clearwater and Stockton this season.

Cardenas took Frank Martinez's spot on the roster, who was sent back down to Single-A Stockton last Friday.

The RockHounds also added a familiar face on Saturday. Outfielder Richie Robnett was assigned to the team from Triple-A Sacarmento, while Aaron Cunningham was called up to the RiverCats. Robnett fought off injuries at the beginning of the season and had struggled in Triple-A Sacramento this season. Robnett was an all-star for the RockHounds in 2007 and was crushing the ball prior to his call up a year ago. Aaron Cunningham had been extraordinary for the 'Hounds over the last month of the sason.
