SOUTH BEND, IN - Josmar Cordero recorded two hits - including a homer - and drove in three Sunday afternoon as the Great Lakes Loons earned a split in their four-game series against the South Bend Silver Hawks with a 5-2 win.

Cordero began the scoring for the Loons in the second with the third straight hit of the half inning against Markus Solbach (2-3), a double down the third base line scoring Paul Hoenecke and Webster Rivas.

Cordero batted later in the game in the eighth inning and put the Loons up 5-1 with a solo home run on a shoulder-high off-speed offering from reliever Alex Byo for his ninth home run of the year.

Scott Barlow (6-5) earned his sixth win of the year, pitching around four walks over five solid innings. His lone run allowed came in the third, when he walked three including Daniel Palka with the bases loaded.

Mark Pope handled a scoreless sixth inning and Victor Araujo did not allow a run in the seventh and eighth innings.

South Bend pushed across a late run in the ninth against reliever Matt Campbell.

Webster Rivas went 1-for-3 to extend his hitting streak to eight games.

The Loons move into a tie with Dayton for the final playoff spot with the win and Bowling Green's comeback win over the Dragons. Lake County's win over Fort Wayne puts them a half-game ahead of the Loons and Dayton.

Monday is the Loons' only off day in the month of August. They return to Dow Diamond to open up a six-game homestand Tuesday beginning with the first of three against the Bowling Green Hot Rods (Tampa Bay Rays) at 7:05pm. Right-hander Zachary Bird (5-13, 3.93 ERA) is scheduled to start against lefty Chris Kirsch (8-6, 2.58).

It's an ESPN 100.9-FM Dodgers Route of Champions Night. Tickets are available at Loons.com or 989-837-BALL.
