Bowling Green Hot Rods News Release
Bowling Green, Ky. - Facing an early deficit right out of the gate, the Bowling Green Hot Rods (Class-A/Tampa Bay Rays) used a four-run fourth inning to tame the Dayton Dragons (Cincinnati Reds) on Sunday afternoon, 6-4. The
It was all Dayton early, as the Dragons plated three in the first inning. Ronald Bueno drew a one-out walk, and Alex Blandino was hit by a pitch to put runners at first and second. Phillip Ervin then doubled down the left-field line to drive both runners home. Ervin would come around to score on a wild pitch, and the lead grew to 3-0.
Bowling Green would get on the board in the bottom of the fifth. With one out, Elias Torres doubled into the left-field corner. After a wild pitch moved him to third base, Spencer Edwards sent him home with a single up the middle to cut the lead to 3-1.
The Dragons would grab that run right back in the top of the seventh. Blandino led off with a single, and moved to second on an attempted throw from the right fielder Torres. He scored when Robert Ramirez singled to left field, and the lead went back to three runs in favor of Dayton, but the Hot Rods rally sent the Dragons to their second defeat in as many nights.
Torres would add an insurance run with a base knock in the eighth, but he ended the game by throwing out Blandino at the plate in a thrilling double play to end the game.
Ben Griset (2-6) worked four innings in relief to earn his second victory of the season. He allowed just one run, and gave way to Josh Kimborowicz who tossed the ninth inning to pick-up his second save as a Hot Rod.
Joel Bender (6-3) entered in the seventh and gave up the lead to be handed the defeat for Dayton.
The Hot Rods now hit the road for a six-game road trip. It begins with a travel day Monday, and they'll open a three-game series with the Great Lakes Loons (Los Angeles Dodgers) on Tuesday night. First pitch in Midland, Mich. is scheduled for 6:05 p.m. CT, and the Pepsi Pre-Game Show begins at 5:50 p.m. CT on the radio home of the Hot Rods, 1340 WBGN - The Ticket.
