Copeland Solid But Fisher Cats Fall Sunday

RICHMOND, VA- Scott Copeland allowed two unearned runs over seven innings but Richmond blanked the Fisher Cats 2-0 on Sunday afternoon at The Diamond in Virginia.

For the Flying Squirrels, Devin Harris hit a two-out, two-run homer for the game's only runs. Ricky Oropesa beat out an infield single just prior to Harris' shot, his sixth of the season.

New Hampshire (28-40) threatened in the ninth inning, putting two on base against Richmond closer Cody Hall. Mike McDade singled and Andy Burns laid down a bunt, reaching on a throwing error. Hall came back to get pinch hitter Hector Gimenez to fly to center before striking out Michael Crouse to end the contest.

Adalberto Mejia (3-5) worked the first seven innings for Richmond. He allowed four hits, walked one and struck out seven. Hunter Strickland pitched a perfect eighth before Hall closed out the game for his fifth save.

Scott Copeland (5-6) took the loss, allowing four hits over seven innings. He walked one and struck out four. Gregory Infante worked a scoreless eighth in relief for New Hampshire.

New Hampshire had just five hits in the game, two by Yusef Carter, who was playing for the first since May 11.

The Fisher Cats will have Monday off. On Tuesday they will open a three-game series against the Altoona Curve (Pittsburgh Pirates) at 7:05 p.m at Northeast Delta Dental Stadium.
