VIERA, Fla. (July 16, 2015) - The Brevard County Manatees defeated the Fort Myers Miracle, 4-1, at Space Coast Stadium on Thursday evening after a one-hour, 49-minute rain delay.
The Miracle got a run in the first inning off Brevard County starter Wei-Chung Wang. Zack Granite led off with a smoked line drive back up the middle, then stole second. After Tanner Vavra flew out to right, Mitch Garver shot an RBI single through the right side to plate Granite, 1-0.
Miracle starter Ryan Eades cruised through a perfect first four innings before allowing back-to-back singles from Garrett Cooper and Taylor Brennen in the fifth. With runners on first and third, Michael Ratterree hit into a double play that brought in Cooper from third and tied the game, 1-1.
Eades (6-2) had still faced just one over the minimum going into the seventh. On a 1-1 pitch, Eades hit Chris McFarland with a pitch and Clint Coulter followed with a single into left field. Cooper stepped up and hit an 0-1 pitch over the wall in left center field for a three-run homer and the Manatees took the lead 4-1.
Wei-Chung Wang earned the win for the Mantees. Wang (7-2) went seven innings and allowed one run on six hits with three walks and one strikeouts. Preston Gainey tossed the final two innings to earn the save.
Over 6.1 innings, Eades gave up four runs on six hits with no walks and seven strikeouts. Brian Gilbert pitched 1.2 innings with a pair of strikeouts.
The Miracle (50-41, 12-9) continue the series with the Manatees (38-51, 9-11) at Space Coast Stadium on Friday night at 6:35 p.m. Fans can listen to every pitch with the "Voice of the Miracle" Brice Zimmerman on www.miraclebaseball.com.
