July 16, 2015 - Florida State League (FSL1)
Tampa Yankees News Release
TAMPA - On his 23rd birthday, Cale Coshow earned a win as the Tampa Yankees (11-9, 45-45) defeated the Charlotte Stone Crabs (7-14, 52-39), 5-1, on Thursday night at George M. Steinbrenner Field.
Coshow (5-2) held the Stone Crabs to one run on three hits in five and two-third innings, walking one while tallying five strikeouts. It was his first time appearing in a professional game on his birthday.
The Yankees provided some run support in the second against RHP German Marquez. Dustin Fowler laid down a bunt single and advanced on a walk by Mike Ford. Fowler scored as Miguel Andujar crushed a double to the wall in center. Ericson Leonora plated Ford with a groundout to third, giving Tampa a 2-0 lead.
Carlos Beltran appeared in his second rehab game with the T-Yanks. Beltran went 1-for-3 with a single in the third. The 38-year-old outfielder batted third and played right field for five innings before Jake Skole replaced him defensively in the sixth.
Tyler Wade extended his hit streak to eight games with a single in the fifth. Abiatal Avelino followed with a base hit to right. Fowler stepped to the plate with two outs and lined a single into left, scoring Wade. Fowler went to second on the throw home and Avelino made it to third on a throwing error by Marty Gantt in left. Both scored as Ford hit a sharp ground ball down the first base line for a 5-0 lead.
Marquez (4-9) allowed five runs (four earned) on eight hits in four and two-third innings. The right-hander walked one batter and struck out four.
Coshow took a shutout into the sixth and surrendered a one-out walk to Andrew Velazquez. A missed catch at first by Ford on a pickoff attempt allowed Velazquez to reach second. After a groundout pushed the runner to third, LHP Eric Wooten relieved Coshow. Willy Adames walked and Mike Marjama hit an RBI single.
Following the Marjama hit, Wooten retired seven consecutive batters. The southpaw tallied five strikeouts in three and a third innings, earning his first save of the year.
Ford (1-for-3, BB, 2 RBI) has four RBI in his last two games. Andujar (2-for-3, BB, RBI) reached base three times. Fowler (2-for-4, RBI) scored twice.
The series continues on Friday with RHP Rookie Davis (5-4, 3.18 ERA) on the mound for Tampa. The Charlotte starter is TBA. First pitch is set for 7:00 p.m. The first 250 fans will receive a 2015 TY baseball card set.
